Masai East-Africa<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Like every other country in the world, Kenya has to deal with the consequences of the Coronavirus. Due to that, it\u2019s not possible to visit this beautiful country at the moment. That\u2019s why today\u2019s post will give you a glimpse into the beautiful Masai culture.<\/p>\n

During the photography tour in Kenya, the traditional way of life of the Masai will be shown to you. They\u2019re one of the most famous tribes of East Africa. We avoid the crowded hotspots and in this way you will see the special communities of the Masai.<\/p>\n

About the Masai<\/strong>
\n\"\"A long time ago, the Masai were the dominating tribe of East Africa. They were semi-nomadic and had no permanent residence. In the 20th century large parts of their land were turned into national parks so they had to change their lifestyle. A semi-nomadic life was no longer possible and the Masai people settled in what is now Kenya and Tanzania. The official language of the Masai people is Maa, which is why the Masai are also called Maasai. Swahili is also a much spoken language and a few Masai people also speak English.<\/p>\n

Lifestyle \u00a0<\/strong>
\n\"\"The Masai always kept large groups of tourists at a distance. That\u2019s why they have retained most of their special traditions. This has not always been easy because there has been a lot of pressure from the government. However, this makes it extra special to meet with this culture.<\/p>\n

The Masai culture is as pure as their lifestyle. The Masai people only live from what nature has to offer. They mainly eat meat from their own cattle because there is almost no agriculture and they don\u2019t eat wild animals. Their bodies are often only covered with a few sheets and large earrings and necklaces. Both men and women wear lots of self-made jewellery. The colour red is often used because it symbolizes life and it\u2019s also meant to keep wild animals away.<\/p>\n

Masai warriors<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\"\"The Masai are known as strong and proud people. For boys, a ceremony in honour of their adulthood is a ritual. During this ceremony the boys become real warriors and this ceremony is an important event in their lives. The Masai are also forced to modernize little by little. For example, killing a lion is no longer always a regular part of this ceremony. Despite that, the warriors can still often be seen with their spear which is really impressive to see.<\/p>\n

In short, a visit to a Masai tribe is an unique experience and an absolute highlight during the photography tour through Kenya.<\/p>\n
